Chimney sweep logs any good?

Postby Mary » Sun Mar 15, 2009 1:48 pm

I've seen commercials for chimney sweep logs, and wondered if anyone used it. Any feedback to whether chimney sweep logs work?

I think she was talking about those things you toss into your fireplace to keep soot out. I've seen them as sticks, or tubes, not as logs.

Ohhhh!!!!

I've seen commercials for that. Since I'm accident prone, the idea of having a fire inside the home, outside of cooking, was out of the question. So I don't have a fireplace, which means no chimney. But thanks for answering my question.

You can talk to any qualified chimney sweep, and they will point out the flaws with those soot cleaning products. I found one Colorado Springs Chimney Sweep that was willing to take the time to explain why they are bad. I wasn't told they don't work, or do what they describe, but they do promote a false sense of security in their use. A chimney should be checked regardless of using soot cleaning products. A professional chimney sweep will sweep and examine your fireplace flue to make sure it is in good condition.

Concerned that I'm regurgitating information from a Colorado Chimney Sweep just trying to make a buck? Look at the chimney sweep logs, or stick, and you will find a warning about how they do not substitute yearly examinations of the fireplace and flue by a professional chimney sweep.

Be careful,

tom

How much does a chimney sweep charge? Not in an area where any Colorado springs chimney sweeps are, but I might give Dr Soot a call http://www.Dr-Soot.com . I hope they don't mind some really basic questions. I understand the importance of keeping fire inside the home under control. So having my flue cleaned and examined will really help keep my fears at ease.
